Faculty Nights" is a fun and interactive event that bridges the gap between students and faculty through the exploration of a "hot topic". This quarter's topic is "They Said What? Campus Protests: Why?" with opening remarks from Dr. Katya Armistead, Associate Vice Chancellor, Student Life, and Dr. Joaquin Becerra, UCSB Dean of Students.

Campus protests are nothing new and a critical component of speech and expression. Exploring their impact as a campus community brings important questions.

What is a protest? What is civil disobedience? Where are the limits of freedom of expression? What are our rights and responsibilities as a university? How do the new mandates from the UC Regents and California Legislature change things? What happens when someone “crosses the line”? How do protests affect our reputation? Will my event be protested?

The events of last year have called upon all of us to discuss the implications of protests on campus.

Join fellow students and scholars for an uncensored discussion, all viewpoints are welcome.

The format of the event is as follows:

A 10-minute presentation followed by informal discussions at small tables (outside) with faculty/staff table hosts and approximately six students.
