OPENING REMARKS BY DR. YOUSSEF BENZARTI, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, ECONOMICS

This quarter's topic is Student Loan “Forgiveness”? The United States government has proposed “forgiving” student loans for some university students. Sounds great!!! The costs of college have risen dramatically in the last two decades - is this the solution? Will it actually happen? Is it fair? Why would anyone oppose this idea? Have programs like this worked in the past? Is this a generation-defining intervention? Will my loans be canceled? What does this mean for the future of college funding? Join fellow students and scholars for an uncensored discussion, all viewpoints are welcome.

The format of the event is as follows:

A 10-minute presentation followed by

Informal discussions at small tables (outside) with faculty/staff table hosts and approximately six students

A meal ticket will be provided FREE for those on the RSVP list
